Most people I know can identify AI generated art by looking at it, and when asked how they know, it almost always comes down to the image feeling “off” to them in a way they may not know how to describe at first. It quite literally triggers an uncanny valley effect in humans.
That being said, the quality of AI generated images has always been a poor argument both for and against it because…
A. “Good” art is subjective.
B. At the end of the day, it doesn’t actually matter if genAI makes “good” content. The real problem with it is the massive negative impact it has on us as a society, not to mention the impact it has on the planet itself.
At best, it’s an art theft machine. At worst, between the environmental damage and the ease of which it can spread misinformation, it is a very real danger to humanity as a whole.
